The Spot Where the Sun Shines (2011 @ Oasis Gallery)

"The cat has nine lives – three for playing, three for straying, and three for staying," so says an old English proverb. In Paul Koh's popular cat art paintings, the cats exhibit more than these three kinds of lives, always pushing and almost always spilling out of the boundaries. In his latest solo exhibition at Oasis Gallery, "catmaSutra – The Spot Where the Sun Shines", Paul takes his audience across landscapes guided by different influences (both western and eastern) but always traversing the quiet spot at the centre of our hearts. These are paintings of transforming a single moment, using the cat as an allegory that the spirit takes, of love, joy and quiet enthusiasm.

My Quirky Valentine (2010 @ Alliance Française de Singapour )
My Quirky Valentine, A Date With The Cat is a brand new exhibition by Paul Koh, the artist behind the popular catmaSutra Series. This quirky cat-art show reveals and celebrates the innumerable diversities and expressions of love: from the thousand half-loves that fire our imagination to that which we truly love, the passion which fills our hearts and minds and brings on a smile. Each painting from this collection cajoles and persuades the heart to expand and zoom into the little things that light up our lives, injecting a fresh, colourful new vision to our world. In his paintings, Paul draws us into a space where the playful and good-natured juxtapose with the tongue-in-cheek and unexpected…all distilled on canvas to create the catmaSutra cat, distinguished by it’s trademark ‘eyes-wide-shut’ and ear-to-ear’ grin. Based on the real-life personalities, eccentricities and adventures of Paul’s two pets, Halo, a ginger tabby and Angel, a Russian Blue, Paul has captured the affectionate inquisitiveness and nonchalant independence typical of the feline. It is a quirky date with the cat - an invitation to orientate our reality to a simplicity that is curious, innocent and playful.
From the Depths of My Lullaby (2009 @ Gallery by the Harbour, Tsimshatsui, Hong Kong)
Gallery by the Harbour @ Harbour City and Blue Lotus fine art are proud to celebrate the arrival of the world’s most popular pet on the shores of Hong Kong. Singaporean artist, Paul Koh, has created a unique body of cat paintings that capture the playful quirkiness and nonchalant independence of the quintessential cat. Based on his real-life pets, Halo and Angel, Paul invites us to partake in CatmaSutra – the method to harness pure indulgence at play and at rest, and to bask in a wonderland where innocence and mischief go hand in hand. Imbued with its trademark ‘eyes-wide-shut' and 'ear-to-ear grin', reality, make-believe, unpredictability and a devil-may-care bravado is distilled on canvas, that is the essence of the CatmaSutra cat.
catmaSutra Six Appeal (2009 @ Utterly Art )
Bright, quirky, happy, and extremely sticky, the sixth installation of catmaSutra cat art exhibition is once again back at Utterly Art. This collection showcases the catmaSutra cat at its idiosyncratic best. Quirky and glossed over with a contemporary sophistication, Paul’s new works are filled with sugar-coated optimism and fired-up enthusiasm that is in keeping with the cat’s ‘can-do’ attitude. Whether it’s standing in attention to Chairman Meow in “Meowism”, doing the DJ scratch with a gramophone, meditating to the Buddha, or riding high on a “Hot Cat Balloon”, this eclectic collection of cat paintings is exuding six appeal that’s guaranteed to tickle your heart & loosen a smile.
